If you’re peckish for a little adventure, join the crew from Auckland Sea Kayaks for a paddle from St Heliers Beach to picturesque Motukorea, aka Browns Island, one of the best-preserved volcanoes in the isthmus.

Upon reaching Motukorea  your guide will share tales of the motu’s colourful history, its flora and fauna all the while preparing a delicious locally-sourced feast for the hungry paddlers.

Don’t be deterred if you’ve never paddled either, because no kayaking experience is required, and full instructions will be provided by your qualified guides. You will however need a reasonable level of fitness and be prepared to paddle up to 4 km each way, which should take around 70 minutes.  Auckland Sea Kayaks, bless them, will also provide warm tops, waterproof jackets, and paddling gloves to keep you snug and dry.

Once replete, guests will say a fond farewell to the island and, as the sun goes down, it’s time to enjoy a magical paddle back to the mainland as the last rays of the setting sun sparkle on the waters of the Waitemata Harbour.

What better way to stimulate the senses than by savouring a well-earned meal in nature – making this the ultimate kai-yak adventure.
